Congrats, you survived the first heatwave of the summer! In anticipation of future Times of Burning, perhaps consider getting some comics so you have something to read when the power goes down? Anyway, you know what else is hot?
Outsider’s First Goblin Art Market
It’s coming next week: our very first art market! We’ll be hosting almost a dozen local artists with chaotic art goblin vibes in and behind the shop! Come through the store or down the Alley of Mystery and find your heart’s desire!
This is an all ages and free event! Want more details? Want to know the current list of confirmed artists? Check out our event page! If you’re a Facebook person there’s also a FB event you can RSVP for reminders and/or invite friends to.
We’re looking forward to this and hope that you will join us! We want a big turnout to support all these wonderful artists and to show folks that there’s room for summer art markets that aren’t 100% polished Instagrammable brands!
Furry Comics Pop-Up Tonight!
Come down to Slightly Furry’s Southend Public House tonight from 5 to 8, grab a pint of delicious cider, and join us in our first pop up shop in… a while! We’ll have tons (okay pounds I cannot carry tons) of furry comics including some that just got here and haven’t appeared in the shop (yet). Plus did I mention there’s delicious cider? (Honestly a big part of doing this is because I want an excuse to drink cider and talk to people about comics.)
Here’s Over 20 Comics You May Like
No list of recommendations this month because we actually posted a list of 23 comic suggestions / recommendations for the Seattle Public Library 2024 Adult Book Bingo last week. It includes some books that you may have heard us talk about over the last year and also some that we have never recommended before. Give it a read if you’d like to get ideas on what to read for the summer, and stay tuned to our web site for Children’s and YA book bingo suggestions coming later this month!
September Book Launches at Outsider
It’s six weeks from now but these two book events are so big you’re going to want to put them in your calendar now. In the first week of September we have not one but TWO book launch events at Outsider!
First up on Tuesday 9/3 we have a new Marvel What If… novel by Seanan McGuire! What If… Wanda Maximoff and Peter Parker Were Siblings is a brand new entry in Marvel’s multiverse of hypotheticals and award-winning, bestselling, Marvel-veteran author Seanan is the perfect person to tell this story. Seanan will be join by Crystal Frasier for a conversation, a Q and A, and then a signing. See our event page for more details or to add it to your calendar!
Next on Thursday 9/5 is the launch of Book of Shadows: Paradise Lust, Outsider’s first 18+ creator event! Join editors Nero Villagallos O’Reilly, Iris Jay, and Hye Mardikian in our celebration of the second entry in their series of gorgeous occult themed LGBTQIA+ erotic art books. BUFFOMET, the first in the series, is an Outsider favorite so we’re glad to host a launch event for this new book featuring the work of 40 artists! Find out more about this event or add it to your calendar here!
This is an 18+ only, sex/kink positive event featuring erotic artwork.
We Sell COVID Tests Now
We’ve heard from many community members that with COVID cases rising, tests are hard to find and are generally unaffordable with pharmacy chains charging upwards of $20 for a test if they can find them. So we’re experimenting with selling COVID rapid antigen tests at cost. By buying in bulk we’re able to offer them at $10 (including tax) per pack of two tests. They’re available right next to our cash register (in a Magic the Gathering box because those boxes fit COVID tests perfectly apparently) if you wanna pick up some tests next time you’re in for your regular booster shot of comics.
Also it was really fun confusing several departments in the Seattle city government because apparently we’re the first people to ask them whether special licenses or permits are needed to sell COVID tests and they were just like, um, wait, we need to look this up.
One Last Note!
We got hit really hard by the heatwave—we ended up with 20% of the sales as usual during it because it just wasn’t safe for folks to go outside and shop—so we’d super appreciate it if you help us spread the word on our Goblin Art Market (or like, drop by!) so we can get that end of month boost and be able to pay our bills <3
As usual, thanks to everyone for your support!
